What is a merienda and how does it work as a social plan?
Updated · 1 min read
A merienda is an afternoon snack or something to drink. As a social plan it can mean coffee, tea or another option while talking. The word does not set a time, menu or who pays: agree on those in the invitation.
What should you ask when invited to a merienda?
Confirm the public place, date, time and duration. Ask whether everyone orders and pays individually and whether a booking is needed. For dietary preferences, check options directly with the venue; a merienda does not guarantee a particular menu.
How is it different from a dinner?
A merienda invitation usually refers to the afternoon rather than a full evening meal. The group still decides the timing and duration. To meet friends, suggest an hour with an expected end time and clear costs without requiring a particular order.
