What low-budget plans can help you meet new friends?
Updated · 2 min read
To meet friends on a small budget, choose an activity without a compulsory purchase or with a cost agreed in advance. A walk or reading meetup may fit, but travel, tickets and venue orders count too.
What ideas can you suggest?
| Idea | Possible expense | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Daytime walk | Travel and your own drink | Route and rain backup |
| Reading recommendations | Order if meeting in a café | No required book purchase |
| Cultural visit | Admission and travel | Official programme and bookings |
| Short coffee meetup | Individual orders | Menu and venue conditions |
How do you explain a budget without making it awkward?
Try: “I would prefer a plan without an entrance fee, where everyone chooses whether to buy anything.” You do not need to disclose income or ask others to explain their budget. Agree on a limit before a shared purchase. An example amount is not a current Buenos Aires price: use the amount confirmed by the venue or actually spent.
Where should you check activities and conditions?
Buenos Aires’ official tourism activity listing is a starting point for finding options. Check each activity’s current date, organiser, booking and cost; this guide does not reproduce a live calendar or promise free admission. If you cannot confirm the conditions, avoid inviting people with a fixed-price claim.
How do you avoid unexpected expenses at the end?
Separate shared expenses from individual orders. Do not assume an equal split if someone orders more. Agree on any tip and who will make a shared purchase. For a first meetup, paying individually may be clearer than sorting out a complicated bill just as everyone is leaving.
Frequently asked questions
Is a walk always free?
Not necessarily. There may be travel or optional personal expenses. Explain separately what the meetup charges and what is not included.
Do you publish current café prices?
No. We do not maintain a price list. Check directly with the venue before inviting people with an estimated cost.
Can I suggest not buying anything?
You can choose a format that allows it. Check a private venue’s conditions and do not promise a table without orders unless it confirms that.
