How do you organise a Spanish and English meetup?

Updated · 2 min read

For a bilingual meetup, explain which languages will be used and whether the aim is social conversation or practice. Offer short turns and space to ask for clarification; do not promise a class or professional translation when it is a social plan.

What should the invitation explain?

Example: “Social coffee in Spanish and English, not a class. Ask us to repeat or use the language you feel comfortable speaking. We will try 20 minutes in each language followed by open conversation. No specific level is required, but professional translation is not provided.” Adapt the arrangement to the group before confirming.

How can you share speaking turns?

  1. Start with names and a question about the activity, not a language assessment.
  2. Use concrete topics: a reading recommendation or something you would like to try.
  3. Pause after each turn to allow questions.
  4. If someone switches language, respond to the content without calling it an error.
  5. Ask which arrangement worked before repeating it at another meetup.

What if someone understands less?

You can rephrase a sentence in simpler words or summarise the topic if you want. Do not make one participant translate the entire meetup because she speaks both languages. If the format excludes someone, change the topic or suggest an activity less dependent on talking. Everyone can decide whether the group suits her.

How do you clarify what LoopClub offers today?

LoopClub’s website has Spanish and English content; that does not mean the app assigns groups by proficiency or translates chats. The app is still in development. For a meetup you organise independently, agree on languages directly with participants and include them in the invitation.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need fluent English?

That depends on the format. Check the invitation and ask which languages will be used; bilingual does not necessarily mean everything will be translated.

Should I correct other participants?

Only if they requested it and agreed to practise. In a social plan, respond to what they share instead of correcting every sentence.

Does LoopClub have automatic chat translation?

We do not present it as an available feature. The app is in development and this website’s bilingual content does not imply chat translation.

Where LoopClub fits

LoopClub is in development and is not available in the app stores yet. It is designed for women aged 18+ in Buenos Aires: plans by neighbourhood and interests, identity verification and group chat. You can already use this website’s guides. We cannot guarantee friendships, attendance or safety at a meetup.
